Responsibilities:

  • Prosecute municipal code violations, including traffic infractions, zoning issues, and misdemeanors.
  • Represent municipalities in civil, criminal, and circuit court proceedings related to code enforcement and compliance.
  • Provide general counsel and legal guidance to municipal clients across various legal issues.
  • Support occasional labor and employment matters, including disputes, arbitrations, and related litigation.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 1+ year(s) of public defender, municipal litigation, or prosecution experience; or 3+ years of other litigation or courtroom experience.
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Michigan State Bar (no exceptions).
  • Comfortable managing a variety of municipal and litigation matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • No portable book of business required.

The Firm is Offering:

  • Competitive starting salary of $75,000 per year, plus annual bonuses ranging from $5K to $10K.
  • Target billables of approximately 150 hours/month (~1,800/year).
  • Supportive team structure, where questions can be answered informally and collaboratively.
  • Long-term growth opportunity.
  • Comfortable, community-focused work environment just steps from the lakefront.

About the Firm:

This is the only law firm of its kind in the area. With just under 50 total people (attorneys and staff), this firm is known for its holistic, team-oriented approach and its strong presence in litigation, real estate, probate, and municipal law. The culture emphasizes mutual respect, knowledge-sharing, and long-term career development.

Interested candidates should submit a resume and brief writing sample for consideration, or email their materials to c.dominic.barilla@lhh.com.
