Cost Accountant – Food Production

Job Overview:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a key role developing and maintaining bills of material (BOM), units of measurement (UOM’s), and overhead calculations. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing manufacturing costs while making recommendations to optimize product costs, improve margins, and support financial decision making.

Key Responsibilities:

· Work closely with production and procurement teams to ensure accurate costing of recipes, packaging, and labor

· Develop, maintain, and update overhead rates, ensuring they are appropriate and accurate for financial reporting

· Track raw material usage, production yields, and waste to identify cost-saving opportunities

· Ensure all products are tracked in appropriate units of measure and conversions between different UOM are accurate for costing purposes

· Contribute to the development of pricing strategies based on cost analysis

· Support the monthly and annual close processes by reconciling inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS)

· Identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements across food manufacturing processes

· Develop and maintain cost accounting standard operating procedures (SOP’s)

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

· Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting

· 2-5 years of cost accounting experience in food manufacturing

Skills:

· Strong understanding of cost accounting principles including material and labor allocations

· Familiarity with recipe costing

· Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems

· Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel

· Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking

· Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

· Results focused and driven by continuous personal improvement

· Proactive in identifying issues and implementing effective solutions
