Duties

• Determines, collects, and preserves evidence from a crime scene.
• Documents crime scenes through still and video photography and sketching.
• Processes evidence with chemicals in a lab setting and/or in the field, including trace evidence and latent prints.
• Prepares formal reports summarizing activities on a case.
• Testifies in court, depositions, pre-files, and pre-trials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated with an acceptable driving record.
• Associate degree in Crime Scene Technology, Forensic Science or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
• A minimum of one (1) year work experience with a law enforcement agency (on the job and/or internship in crime scene investigation),
-OR-
• Equivalent combination of education and experience: Bachelor's degree in Crime Scene Technology, Forensic Science or closely related field supplemented with 6 months of work experience and/or internship in crime scene investigation.
• Requires knowledge of common methods, procedures, and skill in crime scene documentation, crime scene processing, photography, evidence collection, and latent print processing using powder/chemical methods.
• Must be detail oriented, familiar with personal computers, and possess excellent oral/written communication skills.
• Must perform shift work as required.
• Crime scene certificate from an accrediting organization.
