Job Summary: The Extrusion Operator I is responsible for starting up and shutting down one extrusion line, ensuring material is fed into the machine correctly and that the finished product meets the product's specifications. The position must also monitor the machines (extruder, cooling tank, puller, saw, and secondary equipment) and adjust as needed to ensure optimal performance and product quality. Duties/Responsibilities: Start up and shut down an extrusion line. Run an extrusion line and maintain quality and productivity with the help of the extrusion technician where needed. Perform tooling changeovers on the extrusion line where needed. Perform first-piece inspections and monitor production output to ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications. Make adjustments to keep the product within specification and notify theextrusion technician of problems. Complete all documentation related to extruder and the extrusion line. Perform preventative maintenance on extrusion equipment to ensure optimal performance. Handle and manage raw materials, including extrusion resin, ensuring the correct material is used and that it is properly fed into the extruder. Move and stack materials and move tooling in the plant. Identify and report any safety hazards or concerns. Assist in other duties as required. Required Skills/Abilities: Good verbal communication skills. Ability to use precision measuring equipment and mechanical equipment and tools. Ability to perform basic math calculations for measuring and adjusting machine parameters. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately. Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues. Ability to work well independently and in a team. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in plastic extrusion is a plus. 1 year of experience as an Extrusion Operator or 1 year ofrelated work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Forklift certification required or ability to become forklift certified within 2 months of hire. Knowledge of plastic extrusion materials, processes, and machine operation is a plus. Knowledge of MS Office Applications. Understand all applicable OSHA and environmental regulations. Physical Requirements: The physical demands described are representative of those that an employee must successfully perform. Push and Pull carts and pallet jacks, loaded or empty. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 35-100 pounds. Charles Industries weight rule: 35 lbs. and under can be lifted alone. 35 - 50 lbs. can be lifted by one person if they feel comfortable doing so. 50 lbs. or more requires the employee to get assistance or use a lifting device. (i.e. pallet jack, forklift, scissor table, buddy system). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential job functions. The employee regularly works near moving, vibrating mechanical equipment, occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and exposed to minimal risk of electrical shock. Noise level is usually loud, hearing protection and testing are required. PPE required. Safety shoes/boots are required. May require employee to occasionally work around chemicals.
