Job Classification: Police Officer - Entry Level
The Hillsboro Police Department is actively seeking applicants for the Entry-Level Police Officer position. Candidates must complete all testing requirements, including the National Testing Network (NTN) assessment and submit a City of Hillsboro application.

Salary Range: $6,729 - $8,475 per month

Job Requirements
Age: 21 years or older by employment start
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or attain citizenship within one year of hire
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Driver's License: Valid license in the state of residence
Character: Must display good moral character, integrity, and honesty
Certification: Ability to obtain DPSST basic police certification within 18 months of hire
Background Check: Subject to background, credit, and criminal history reviews
Physical Requirements: Must meet applicable medical and physical standards
Hiring Process
Application and NTN Registration: Register with NTN, complete the Frontline National Test, and share your scores with the Hillsboro Police Department. Minimum passing scores are 65% for Video, 70% for Writing, and 70% for Reading. Candidates with a bachelor's degree may be exempt from the exam.
City of Hillsboro Application: Complete the city's application form. Candidates meeting initial qualifications will be evaluated on experience, skills, and training.
Physical Agility Test (ORPAT): Attach valid ORPAT results (within 12 months) or complete ORPAT testing as scheduled by the department.
Oral Board Interview and Background Check: Selected applicants proceed to interviews and background investigation.
Final Steps: Conditional offers are contingent on passing a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
Disqualifiers and Background Standards
Driving History: More than two moving violations or chargeable accidents in three years, DUI within three years, or license suspension within the last three years may disqualify.
Integrity and Honesty: Evidence of dishonesty, untruthfulness, or falsification of records is grounds for disqualification.
Court Credibility: Must be able to testify in court without credibility issues.
Dependability: Frequent absences or dismissals from previous employment without reasonable cause may disqualify.
Drug Use: Use or possession of hallucinogens or other illegal drugs within the last five years will result in automatic disqualification.
