**Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems** has an opening for a **Principal or Sr. Principal Guidance, Navigation, & Control (GNC) Engineer.** This position will be located in **San Diego, CA** .
The selected candidate will design, develop, implement, verify, and test algorithms, software, and simulation tools to perform Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) of aircraft. Develop control laws to meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities and stability margin requirements, both on ground and in flight. Develop air vehicle system linear and non-linear dynamic simulation models and integrate models into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments. Analyze air vehicle flight test data and support flight test activities.
**Essential Functions include the following:**
+ Flight test support in mission control room (pre-flight predictions, real-time support, post flight analysis, parameter identification)
+ Perform performance and flying qualities analysis
+ Non-linear 6DOF Simulation analysis (stress testing, trade studies, etc.)
+ Linear MATLAB analysis (gain/phase margin determination, stability margin analysis)
+ Embedded flight control software design/code/test
+ Data analysis and investigation (document analysis and provide presentations to management and customer)
+ Mission plan analysis support
_This position can be filled at either the Principal Engineer or Sr Principal Engineer level._
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer include a Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with no experience
+ Basic Qualifications for a Sr Principal Engineer include a Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 8 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 3 years of experience.
+ Candidate must have excellent communication, analysis and problem-solving skills and be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
+ Familiarity with Flight Sciences
+ Knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft flight dynamics
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Proficient in C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink
+ Knowledgeable in flight sciences, control law development, and control system analysis.
+ Experience analyzing non-linear simulations of aircraft closed-loop dynamics
+ Experience using MATLAB to create, process, analyze and visually represent data
+ Active DoD Secret clearance
+ Flight test experience
Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00Salary Range 2: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
